The cost of a localization project depends on many factors, such as the number of translators required and their level of specialization, whether or not marketing experts or graphic designers are involved in the process, or the degree of complexity of the source file. Our quotes always provide you with a list of different options, so that you can choose the combination that is best suited to your objectives and budget.
How long does it take?
Like cost, the duration of a project depends on a variety of factors, such as its volume, complexity, and the localization options you chose for it.
Do we localize documents other than websites?
It is an important part of our growth and quality strategies to focus on what we do best, i.e., websites. However, we do strive to bring our clients maximum satisfaction, especially those who need a one-stop shop or whose other documents, such as brochures or annual reports, have very similar content to the website. Therefore, when clients ask us to extend our services, we consider each request on an individual basis.
What happens when a project or its content are confidential?
We obviously sign non-disclosure agreements, but, beyond that, it is our professionalism and standards that give our clients the guarantee that their confidential information is in safe hands.
Do our translators use Computer Assisted Translating tools (CAT)?
Unlike what most people think, CATs are not an automated translating software, but rather a tool that enables a more professional approach to translation by, enabling us, among other things, to:
- make sure the same translation is used (in the same context) for the same phrase throughout a whole range of the same client's documents
- integrate specific glossaries when provided by our clients
- coordinate multi-translator projects
- avoid charging repeated paragraphs
As you can imagine, the answer is yes, we do use CATs.
How can we be sure a specialized website is adequately translated?
The translation of specialized texts (e.g., legal or medical) is handled by specialized translators from our integrated network. When we do not have an adequate translator for the specialization and language pair within our integrated network, we inform the client and, if they wish, search for a free-lance translator in our broader network. In any event, specialized translation is always carried out under the supervision of our in-house translators.
When is a website's text considered to be specialized?
It is often a fine line between 'standard' and 'specialized', which is why we often like to refer to the intermediate notion of 'qualified'. When a text is 'qualified', the best solution is often for a non-specialised translator to do the initial translation, before the text is proofread by a specialized translator.
What source files can we work with?
We can work with (X)HTML, XML, PHP, ASP/ASP.net, Java, Python (Django, Turbogears), Ruby (Ruby on Rails). In terms of graphical interfaces, we usually work with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash and GIMP files. We will also be able to work with most source languages not mentioned above, so please contact us if yours is different.
How does redirection work?
Redirection works by utilizing two inputs by the visiting user: the IP address for geographical location determination, and browser settings for language options. You will be able to specify which input to take into account and set precedence for one over another.
How accurate is redirection?
Geographical location determination is 99.8% accurate (or 99.3% depending on the option you choose).
What is needed on your server to handle redirection?
We chose to distribute the redirection script in PHP because it is handled by almost all servers. However, if another language is more adequate for you, we can also provide you with the script in that language.
